Applied Sustainability, 2019

archival pigment print, float mount, white box frame, 130 x 90 cm

Olga Permiakova's work reflects the AUAS’ vision of connecting education and applied research. Students learn through realistic professional practice situations, solving complex issues within the study program. Permiakova decided to make an attempt and apply the same principle to daily life. Experimenting with ordinary objects and materials, which are usually thrown-away, for example, plastic bags and wrapping paper, Permiakova seeks practical solutions by repurposing those items in her still lives. By doing that, she is raising a relevant question of the importance of recycling and reducing waste. All the materials, used in the process, were recycled afterwards.
